Local LLMs & Claude Code
Users are exploring ways to integrate Claude Code with local LLMs (like Qwen) for instruction crafting, code execution, and potentially "free" or more accessible usage, while also discussing security considerations and custom tooling for integration within preferred coding environments.
@iannuttall I’m running Qwen 2.5 14B locally and using Claude to craft instructions for the locally hosted LLM to code through PowerShell and run tests. Claude then periodically checks the code and provides guidance for the LLM on how to fix issues, reducing token costs by around 80%.
People are saying that you can run a local LLM in LM Studio and use it with Claude Code. A lot of people are quoting and replying saying it’s “free unlimited Claude Code,” but there’s no way running something like gpt-oss-20b locally is going to behave the same as Opus 4.5, so I
Been using it for weeks. Assuming you know how to sandbox it and do not give it any sensitive credentials, it’s great. Claude Code but accessible via Telegram/WhatsApp and with persistent storage, skills and context.
