I kept hitting auto-compact too soon in Claude Code. Turns out MCP tools were hogging 22k tokens upfront. ENABLE_TOOL_SEARCH is set to “auto” by default which only kicks in at 10% Switched it to "true" and context went from 51k to 29k. It might be worth forcing it on if you’re
